The application process happens in three phases. Phase I: Applicants will submit an online application, verification documents, and their FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) by Wednesday, February 4, 2026 by 4:59 p.m. (AZ Standard Time).
Phase II: Semi-finalists will be selected and announced in February. The Phase II application, including writing samples, and two letters of recommendation are due by Wednesday, March 4, 2026 by 4:59 p.m. (AZ Standard Time).
Phase III: Finalists are announced and invited to an in-person interview in April. Recipients are announced by April 30 each year.

Recipients complete the DSP Summer Bridge Program at their chosen university prior to freshmen year. This five-week program is an introduction to learning processes, campus resources, and academic expectations that assist recipients in becoming successful Dorrance Scholars and university students.
In addition to professional knowledge and skills, a college-educated person should be able to write and speak clearly and persuasively, analyze data effectively, and work in diverse groups in an increasingly interdependent (global) world. These characteristics are nurtured in the Humanities. The summer after freshmen year, scholars are immersed in the Humanities and prepare for the academic and logistical challenges of global travel.
The semester long experience builds on the skills and knowledge gained through the Summer Bridge and Humanities Programs to further scholars’ personal and academic development. The courses offer scholars opportunities to analyze cultural artifacts and foster an appreciation for some of the great western artistic works and sites in Europe, tracing their influence to the United States.
During the summer following sophomore year, scholars participate in a program that explores innovative thinking, calculated risk-taking, and problem solving. The course will equip student with the skills to identify and pursue strategic responses to opportunities for innovation in the human condition.

Attend the one-day New Scholar Orientation in May to learn more about the program and all it entails.
