Since 1999, counselors and teachers have been essential to the Dorrance Scholarship Program. You know your students best, and your encouragement often makes the difference between a student applying or not. Thank you for being advocates for your students.

How to Recommend a Student

Recommending a student is simple and your support means everything. Here’s the process:

Share the Opportunity

Tell your students about the Dorrance Scholarship Program. Often, your encouragement is what motivates them to take the first step and apply.

Provide Your Email

Give the student your official school email address. They’ll enter your contact information into their Phase I application.

Complete the Recommendation

If the student is selected as a semi-finalist, a recommendation form will be emailed to you during Phase II of the application process. Fill it out and submit.

Who To Recommend

We’re looking for motivated Arizona high school students who will be the first in their families to earn a four-year college degree.

Student Eligibility:

  • First-generation college student (neither parent has completed a four-year degree)
  • Arizona resident attending an Arizona high school
  • Planning to attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona
  • ACT composite score of 22 or higher, OR SAT combined score of 1110 or higher (excluding writing portion)

 

If a student has taken the test more than once, we superscore their results. Students should register for the ACT or SAT by early November to receive scores before the application deadline.

Test Score Requirements

ACT: Applicants must have a composite score of 22 or higher.
Students can register here: https://www.act.org/
SAT: Applicants must have a combined score of 1110 or higher, excluding the writing portion.
Students can register here: https://www.collegeboard.org/
